The life of King Charles III spans an extraordinary period in modern British royal history.
Born at Buckingham Palace on 14 November 1948, Charles was the first child of Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip. When his mother became Queen Elizabeth II in 1952, the young Prince became heir apparent at only three years old.
